So yesterday I started with a 6:12 mile and definately found out that is not the path to my best time. I have ran AEP 4 different times, it was actually my very first race ever. In 2003 I finished in 20:57, average pace of 6:44, and I think I even finished third in my age group. In 2005 I had a great race finishing in 18:42, average pace of 6:00. That year I finished 7th overall and 2nd in my age group. In 2008 I decided I would try running the 10k instead of the 5k. It was only fitting that I run my first 10k on the same course that I raced my first 5k. I finished in 42:38 with an average pace of 6:52. The last year, 2009, I ran with my sister and tried to help her beat the 30 minute mark, which has been elusive for her despite many solid and courageous attempts. It turned out to not be the day and we finished in 35:50 and 35:51.
I know that I am not in the condition that I was in 2005, but I'd like to think that I can still beat my 2003 time of 20:57. So how? How do I make tomorrow the best race that it can be. How do I race my best and enjoy the run? Hopefully this will get me there...
